This past weekend, I made a small dent in one chore I tend to stay away from---cleaning my closet! Did I say "small"? Ok, to be honest, I should say "extremely" small. While I love the sense of accomplishment and pride that comes over me when I open the door of my closet and see an organized, color-coded array of my favorite clothes, the idea of getting knee-deep in sorting, stacking and displaying my clothes does not entice me whatsoever. (where is my leaf blower, anyway?) Plus, Ward and I share a closet and half the time I find my clothes with his clothes, his clothes with my clothes and who knows what where! Its all a bit overwhleming. In any event, I started by filling up some donation bags with some winter clothes I no longer wear. I also got rid of some summer clothes that I have not worn since Tiny was born.
I don't know about you, but after I had a child, my body definitely went through some major changes! Immediately after giving birth, I dropped most of the weight. However, all of a sudden, my body morphed into something else never known to me before. Now don't get me wrong-I was never one of those women with perfect bodies. I was just an average typical woman-not skinny, not overweight-just somewhere in the middle. I could stand to lose some weight, but generally I was happy with the status quo. I realized long ago that being a "skinny girl" just isn't in the cards for me; its not realistic, so I am perfectly okay with being the way I am. But suddenly, after childbirth, I had the awful "muffin top" creeping out of my jeans! Ugh! On top of that, everything started to head south, regardless of the weather! I felt like something out of a National Geographic magazine when I looked in the mirror and wanted to scream!
Some great products I have found which help to get the muffin top in line are Spanx and Hip-T's. The entire Spanx line works miracles. I spent the money and bought a Spanx "Bod a Bing" outfit and have been wearing it for years. Whenever I wear it, people ask if I have lost weight. I feel great in it and a good thing about it is that it comes in basic colors and its so simple that it can be dressed up or down and goes with just about anything in your closet. I wear it for work, casual, dinners, etc. I cannot say enough!
The other item which is great for everyday wear is the Hip-T. A fellow mama recommended these to me a few months back and I tried them out. You can buy them online at http://www.myhip-t.com/ and they are truly a great find! I have been wearing them constantly since trying them out a couple of months ago. They are specifically designed to battle back against the "muffin top," the "plumbers crack," and the thong "peek a boo." The Hip-T is a smooth layer that you wear just on your lower tummy/torso under your shirts without all the bulky, messy layers. It cleverly camouflages the muffin top and any other problem down below to create a neat, tight, streamlined look. I find now that I am not walking around pulling up my draws all the time and being self conscious about my muffin top when I wear my Hip-T's! They are really cute, too and come in solids, prints and trimmed edges.
I recently reached out to the amazing ladies who created the Hip-T to tell them how great I think their product is and how it really makes a difference in my life. They offered to give one of my blog followers the opportunity to win one Hip-T of their choice in a contest here at my blog! Now, how "hip" are these ladies???? If you want to get in on this contest, here is what you have to do:
1) Go to the Hip-T website at http://www.myhip-t.com/ and check out all of the different styles and colors they offer. Then come back here and leave me a comment as to which one you would pick if you win the contest. You are so right that the hip-T is a good way to get that layer effect without all the layers. I've just discovered this product in a magazine today (where have I been?) and I'm anxious to give it a try. I checked out their website and I really like the Black hip-T with Lace as well as the Zebra style (or both, really!). I'll go ahead and follow you on twitter. You can find me at @amytheblack.

I would choose the black with lace. Such a great idea, and I feel your pain. 2 kids here and I'm not too big, not too small, but definitely uncomfortable in most outfits..sigh
